How it works
Step 1: Download the new HFX e-Scooters App!
We have a new app! On June 1, 2023 , we put out a new and improved app for HFX e-Scooters! If you still have the older app, please delete it and download the new app!
Step 2: Locate an available e-scooter
Open the app and look at the map of Halifax.
When you pan around the map, you will see the locations of available e-scooters.
Click on an e-scooter to get more information about that scooter.
If you do not see any e-scooters on the map it means e-scooters are not available, or are not deployed for use at that time.
Step 3: Learn how to drive an e-scooter
Safety, laws and tips to know before you begin your ride.
Step 4: Make your way to an e-scooter and start your rental!
Using the map of Halifax on the app, go to the location of an e-scooter, or click on it and reserve it for up to 15 minutes for a $1.75 charge. E-scooters are rented on a first-come-first-served basis. When you arrive open the HFX e-Scooters app and tap the ‘Star’ button.
On each e-scooter’s handlebar is a QR code. Scan the QR code to start your ride.
Scooters with less than 20% battery will not be available.
To rent the e-scooter, follow the prompts to unlock. The display on the handle bar will turn on and you are ready to ride.
To change your payment method, click on any scooter on the map, and you’ll se the option to change payment method.
Step 5: Stay within the geo-fence
Using the map on the app, stay within the green operational area. Going outside the white area will result in your e-scooter sounding an alarm and disabling the electric power. You will need to manually push the e-scooter back into the geo-fence area.
Step 6: Finishing your ride
When you are done with your e-scooter, you can leave it anywhere in the operational area. PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK THE SIDEWALK WHEN PARKING.
Go back to the app, and ‘slide’ the option to lock the scooter. You will see your rental cost, and your card will be charged automatically.
Park your e-scooter “out-of-the-way”. Do not block sidewalks, or entrances to businesses or residences. Find a spot that will keep the e-scooter out of risk of damage and doesn’t interfere with members of the public.
